Scholarships for Students
The Marshfield Area Community Foundation announces Scholarships to area students. MACF has 46 scholarship funds and awarded scholarships to 52 recipients. Our funds are giving over $53,000 in tuition assistance for the 2012- 2013 school year! To put this in perspective, it was 12 years ago in 1997 that the Foundation presented its first scholarship. The following year we presented four. In 1999 there were fourteen. Now there are 52. In the last 15 years we have awarded 419 scholarships, valued at almost $382,000 with the average scholarship awarded was $911. Each year the Buyer’s Guide publishes an insert that lists over 400 scholarship opportunities available throughout our geographical area. We are very proud of the individuals, businesses, organizations, and families who have stepped forward to provide this wonderful demonstration of faith in our young people and belief in the importance of education.
We have winners from High Schools from throughout our service area- Marshfield, Columbus, Arpin, Colby, Granton, Owen-Withee, Prentice, Spencer, Stratford, Vesper, Wisconsin Rapids, and even Fort Atkinson High School in Iowa. We have non-traditional students who are going back to school after a gap in their education. We are proud of all of these students and their ambition and their dedication to furthering their education.
Awards Nights are held during the month of May. It is an opportunity to bring together the students who have earned these scholarships and their families who support them. It is a chance for the people who established these scholarships to meet the students who their scholarship will benefit. The scholarship fund holders have made a commitment to the future. They saw the value in investing in the future through educating our youth. These scholarship events are the absolute favorite part of my job and I think you can see why. These students are our future. It is in good hands.
